The Opportunity

We are looking for enthusiastic graduates to join our Ground Engineering teams across UK offices. You will help deliver effective and professional services for a range of high-profile clients. You will have responsibility from day one and will be given opportunities to take on more as you progress and broaden your skills and experience.

You will work within a multi-disciplinary office supported by ground engineering professionals of all levels. There will be opportunities to develop a strong base in ground engineering, problem solve and develop designs, or specialise in areas such as numerical modelling, seismic, risk and resilience, or sustainability. You will focus on geotechnical aspects across the project lifecycle, including desk studies, ground investigation, analysis & design, carbon management, construction supervision & monitoring, and asset management. You will collaborate in multi-disciplinary project teams and may be asked to work in other Arup offices or regions. Our structure supports workload sharing, international assignments, and skill development across the firm.

We have roles available in London, Bristol, Cardiff, Nottingham.

Responsibilities
  • Support geotechnical design and analysis across the project lifecycle (desk studies, ground investigation, analysis & design, construction supervision & monitoring, asset management).
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams and contribute to solving geotechnical problems for varied clients.
  • Develop skills in areas such as numerical modelling, seismic, risk and resilience, or sustainability.
  • Progress towards professional qualification with guidance from the team.
Qualifications
  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering or similar subject, 2.1 or above (predicted or attained).
  • A Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or post-graduate qualification in Geotechnics, Soil Mechanics, Seismic Engineering or related subject is desirable.
  • Enthusiasm for a career in ground engineering, underpinned by knowledge of the sector and work.
  • Excellent knowledge of soil mechanics and soil-structure interaction with an understanding of sustainable development principles.
  • Effective communication, teamwork, and an analytical mindset.
  • Ability to work on your own initiative and be proactive, seeking to improve existing ways of working.
  • Understanding how to apply Eurocodes in geotechnical and structural design.
  • Willingness to learn new technical and engineering software, including 3D design and digital automation.
  • Experience with coding languages, finite element software, or digital design would be beneficial.
  • An openness to specialise through postgraduate or PhD studies is welcome.
Location and Start Date

You should be able to start this opportunity in September 2026.
