Role Title: Graduate Ecologist

Start Date: Summer 2026

Location: Midlands, Birmingham or Leicester

Role and responsibilities

Are you looking to put your academic learning into practice? Do you want to turn your passion for Ecology into a career with training and mentoring to develop your field craft and consultancy skills? Our award-winning Ecology consultancy has won Large Consultancy of the Year at the CIEEM Awards in 2023 and 2025, and Large Scale Mitigation Project of the Year in 2023.

  • Support and assist our ecologists on a range of habitat and protected species surveys including bats, reptiles, amphibians, otters, and barn owls.
  • Undertake desktop studies, data analysis, and report writing.
  • Develop field craft and consultancy skills as part of a professional team in the outdoors.
  • Work within a national team of ecologists and contribute to projects across the UK.
  • Engage in multi-disciplinary opportunities and collaborate with colleagues from other parts of the business.
About The Ecology Team
  • Over 90 permanent ecologists across 14 offices working as one cohesive team.
  • Time away from home minimised; IT systems enable seamless remote and flexible working.
  • Site-based cars or car allowances for all team members, including for personal use.
  • Toil system to manage time according to personal needs and seasonal demands.
  • Career frameworks providing clarity on progression and mentoring, including from in-house experts.
  • Bat handling licence incentivisation and opportunities to achieve Chartered Ecologist status with a financial bonus.
  • Collaborative environment with planners, archaeologists, landscape architects, masterplanners, and engineers.
Qualifications and skills
  • Minimum 2:1 Degree or equivalent in ecology, conservation, or a related discipline
  • Be a student or qualifying member of CIEEM (or evidence of working towards this)
  • Understanding of ecological survey principles and mitigation work
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and occasionally early mornings
  • Willingness to travel for work
  • Valid UK driving licence; ideally access to a vehicle
  • Able to obtain SC clearance and DBS check
