Job summary

A local educational institution in Chelmsford is seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to support students with severe learning difficulties (SLD) in their pre-formal pathway. The successful candidate will deliver 1:1 support and assist in a classroom setting. Previous experience with special educational needs is preferred. Teaching Assistant

PayScale: Band A point 4 (approx. £16,190 actual)
25 hrs per week - 45.8 weeks per year (1 extra paid week after 5 years of service)

We are seeking to appoint Teaching Assistants to work with SLD students in our pre-formal pathway. These students are unable to access the national curriculum but have individualised learning programmes instead. Working in the pre-formal pathway may involve supporting all of the students in the class and/or providing 1:1 support for a named student.

Previous experience of working with children with special educational needs whilst not essential, is preferable.

The Trust

In March 2025 Treetops School was judged by Ofsted to have maintained the standards identified at the previous inspection. The previous inspection was in February 2020, at which time Treetops was judged as Outstanding. Treetops Free School, which officially opened in September 2022, was judged Good in its first Ofsted inspection in March 2024.

Students throughout Treetops Learning Community have complex needs varying from moderate to severe learning difficulties, which may include speech and communication difficulties, autism and global developmental delay.
