As part of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), IUKL plays a vital role in advancing business-led innovation across the UK.In this role, you’ll serve as the Financial Reporting Manager for Innovate UK Loans Limited, collaborating closely with various teams across UKRI. You’ll support the Group Financial Controller and the IUKL company in preparing accurate, fully compliant statutory financial statements.The position involves working with operational finance teams, broader UKRI finance functions, and external government partners to apply strong financial accounting principles and robust control practices.### Key ResponsibilitiesAs Financial Reporting Manager for the Innovate UK Loans Company, you will:* Oversee the preparation and timely approval of high-quality statutory accounts, ensuring they meet all regulatory requirements and are audited successfully. This includes managing stakeholder expectations, drafting and presenting reports to the Company’s Board and Audit & Risk Committee.* Lead the Financial Reporting team and maintain IFRS 9 and IFRS 13-compliant models for expected credit losses and fair value measurements. You’ll coordinate with key external partners such as the National Audit Office (NAO), Government Actuary’s Department (GAD), and Moody’s, while driving issue resolution and ongoing enhancements.* Provide specialist expertise in technical accounting and complex financial instruments. You’ll communicate intricate concepts clearly and concisely — both in writing and verbally — to senior leaders, governance committees, non-finance audiences, and technical experts. This includes advising on the accounting implications of new lending products or changes to loan terms, and collaborating with loan operations, portfolio management, and credit risk teams.* Build and maintain relationships with relevant government and industry oversight bodies, including the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT), UK Government Investments (UKGI), HM Treasury’s Government Debt Management Function, and teams focused on subsidy control. You’ll stay ahead by gathering insights from the sector to anticipate future requirements and adopt emerging best practices.* Actively contribute as a member of the wider Financial Control Managers team, reporting to the Financial Controller. You’ll embody professional standards in UKRI Finance, foster a supportive and positive team culture, and help drive high performance across the group.### What We are Looking ForEssential Criteria (assessed at shortlisting (S), interview (I), or both (S&I)):* Approximately 5 years of post-qualification experience in accounting, ideally gained in a financial institution’s financial reporting team, a government entity’s accounts team handling financial instruments, or a major audit firm with exposure to financial instruments audits. (S)* Strong technical knowledge of financial reporting and accounting standards, particularly IFRS 7, IFRS 9 (Financial Instruments), and IFRS 13 (Fair Value Measurement). (I)* Excellent communication skills to explain complex technical matters clearly in writing and presentations to diverse audiences, from senior executives and board members to specialist colleagues. (S&I)* Hands-on experience working with internal and external financial models, especially those related to credit risk. (S&I)* Strong forward-thinking mindset, resilience under pressure, and problem-solving ability to deliver compliant statutory accounts and related projects against tight deadlines. (I)* Dedication to continuous improvement, including implementing recommendations from audit management letters to strengthen processes and ensure ongoing compliance with accounting standards.
