Overview

Environmental Test Engineer role at MBDA based in Henlow. Join an UKAS/ISO 17025 environmental test laboratory working on a variety of projects that will stretch your skills as an engineer.

Salary: Circa £50,000 depending on experience

Dynamic (hybrid) working: 5 days per week on-site due to workload classification

Security Clearance: British Citizen or a Dual UK national with British citizenship. Restrictions and/or limitations relating to nationality and/or rights to work may apply. After offer, successful candidates will need to undergo HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard checks (BPSS).

The opportunity

Joining the Environmental Engineering and Facilities team, you will support design and In Service Surveillance activities across MBDA product portfolios. You will work on diverse projects, collaborating with a multi-disciplinary team to test MBDA products using equipment that replicates real-life environments including temperature, humidity, shock and vibration. You will also document results and contribute to technical reviews.

Responsibilities
  • Have an engineering background with a strong understanding of structures and analysis
  • Develop skills to simulate extreme environments to ensure MBDA products are robust, safe and fit for service
  • Understand environmental test standards including DEF STAN 00-035, MIL STD 810, STANAG 4370, AECTP 300 & AECTP 400
  • Translate customer test requirements into viable test strategies
  • Documentation reviews, data processing and reporting in line with customer specifications and MBDA standards
  • Support technical reviews with key partners

Note: Travel to Henlow will be required occasionally.

What we’re looking for

Essential:

  • HNC/HND/Degree in a relevant subject or demonstrable equivalent experience
  • Good problem solving with knowledge of mechanical structures and analysis
  • IT competence (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Experience using measurement equipment (accelerometers, thermocouples, strain gauges, etc.)
  • Self-motivated, with strong interpersonal skills
  • Methodical, logical, conscientious and safety-conscious

Desirable:

  • Experience leading or working in project delivery
  • Experience with LMS vibration control equipment or automated mechanical test systems
  • Experience identifying and delivering capability and technical improvements
