Job description

Metricell is on a mission to revolutionise connectivity. We partner with telecommunications companies to design, deliver and manage wireless communication networks, all with a shared goal of achieving flawless network experiences.

For nearly twenty years, we have been at the forefront of network connectivity, providing innovative solutions that empower governments, network operators, and blue‑chip businesses worldwide to become ‘better connected’. More recently, we have pioneered the use of Artificial Intelligence to develop and enhance our tools.

About the role

Are you looking to take your first step into the mobile communications industry with a role that offers hands‑on learning, practical experience and the chance to travel across the UK?

We're looking for an enthusiastic and reliable Engineering Assistant to support our engineers with testing and measuring mobile network connectivity. This is an ideal opportunity for a college leaver or someone early in their career who is keen to learn, develop new skills and get involved in real‑world engineering projects.

This is a varied, active role – not a typical desk‑based position. You might spend one day helping to test mobile coverage in busy city centres and the next travelling to rural areas, festivals or customer locations to carry out testing using specialist equipment. The work is customer‑driven, so you’ll need to be flexible and comfortable with occasional night or weekend shifts depending on project needs. When you’re not out on site, you’ll be based at our Horsham office assisting with basic data checks, uploading results and supporting the team with planning upcoming tasks.

You’ll receive full training, ongoing support and the chance to build skills across a range of customer projects. Over time, you’ll gain exposure to areas such as radio planning, optimisation and performance monitoring, and you’ll work with experienced engineers and IT specialists using modern cloud‑based tools that help manage large‑scale 4G and 5G networks in the UK and abroad.

If you have a positive attitude, good attention to detail and a willingness to learn, this role will give you a strong foundation to grow your career in a fast‑moving and high‑demand industry.

Why Metricell?

At Metricell, we create an environment where people feel empowered to do meaningful work that makes a real impact. From helping to improve mobile connectivity in rural areas to delivering cutting‑edge solutions to global clients, the work we do is both purposeful and rewarding.

We believe the best results come from collaboration, so we’ve built a culture of open communication, shared goals, and mutual support. Our people describe a relaxed yet results‑driven atmosphere where curiosity and continuous learning are actively encouraged. You’ll be part of a team that values innovation, takes pride in progress, and is committed to growing together.

We’re proud to play an active role in both our industry and our community. From charity partnerships to supporting local education through work placements, we believe in making a positive difference beyond the workplace. At Metricell, Better Connected means creating strong links between our people, our customers, and the wider world around us.

What you’ll be doing
  • Learning to set up and operate mobile network test equipment to capture accurate network performance data.
  • Travelling nationwide to support the team with drive testing, conducting walk testing, and testing inside buildings.
  • Working in environments such as railways and mass transit systems (with specialist safety training provided).
  • Taking part in projects that sometimes require night‑time testing for the most accurate results.
  • Developing practical skills in troubleshooting and maintaining advanced measurement systems.
  • Helping to keep equipment organised, calibrated and ready for use.
  • Gaining exposure to new testing tools and techniques as you build your experience.
About you
  • Excited to learn and keen to develop hands‑on technical skills.
  • Flexible, adaptable, and open to working unsociable hours when required.
  • Happy to travel regularly across the UK, often to new places and environments.
  • A practical problem solver with a positive, can‑do attitude and willingness to get stuck in.
  • Confident working both independently and as part of a team.
  • Physically fit and able to carry a 10kg backpack on testing routes for several hours
  • Able to pass a medical examination
  • Interested in technology and willing to learn about telecommunications
  • Residence in the UK for 5 years plus, so eligible to apply for SC clearance if required.
  • Any exposure to mobile networks, telecoms, radio frequency, or technical fieldwork is a bonus, but not essential
  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • Additional day off your Birthday
  • 25 days annual leave (plus public holidays)
  • Full office closure between Christmas and New Year
  • Refer a Friend Scheme
Following your successful probationary period
  • Private Health Care (including hearing, sight and dental)
  • Bike2Work Salary Sacrifice Scheme
  • Interest‑Free Season Ticket Loan
We also have
  • Gym, showers and games room
  • Charity and fundraising events
  • Free onsite parking at our Horsham office
