Qualifications

  • At least 10 years’ experience in an engineering role within manufacturing.
  • 5+ years of management experience with a focus on operational leadership.
  • Secondary education (GCSEs / NVQ Level 2) in Science, Maths, and English.

The Role

We’re looking for an Engineering Manager - Magnesium to join our operations team at Luxfer MEL Technologies in Manchester. You will oversee engineering activities within the Magnesium arena, manage a dedicated maintenance team, and work closely with the Head of Engineering and Head of Automation to support business growth.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintenance Leadership: Manage both preventative and reactive maintenance for the Magnesium plant, and lead Capex projects to support plant growth.
  • Team Leadership: Supervise day and 24/7 shift engineers, ensuring they meet company objectives and KPIs focused on capacity, OEE, and proactive maintenance.
  • Problem-Solving & Improvements: Lead efforts to resolve equipment breakdowns, troubleshoot defects, and implement continuous improvements to reduce downtime.
  • Capex & Budget Management: Develop and implement a strategic Capex plan to support plant uptime, and control the maintenance budget, including use of external contractors.
  • Safety & Efficiency: Maintain a strong safety culture, adhering to H&S protocols and 5S standards. Champion continuous improvement through Lean initiatives.
  • Digital Transformation: Collaborate with management to digitise operations and drive innovation across the business.

Who We’re Looking For

Essential Education/Experience:

  • Honours Degree in engineering or closely related subject
  • Secondary education (GCSEs / NVQ Level 2) in Science, Maths, and English
  • Level 3 or higher qualification in Engineering or related discipline
  • At least 10 years’ experience in an engineering role within manufacturing
  • 5+ years management experience with a focus on operational leadership
  • Strong IT skills

Nice Have’s:

  • Supervisory qualifications (e.g., ILM)
  • Experience using SAP
  • Experience with CMMS
Working Hours
  • 37 hours per week (nominal), with on-call availability in case of emergencies.
