Overview

The Employee Relations (ER) Specialist operates within the Employee Services team, providing expert guidance and support on complex employee relations matters to ensure fair, consistent, and legally compliant outcomes. The role supports functional managers across our UK sites, acting as a trusted advisor to balance business objectives with employee well‑being.

Key Accountabilities
  • Deliver timely ER advice and guidance to empower functional managers to proactively manage their ER cases within acceptable risk levels.
  • Coach, support and upskill functional managers to develop ER capability within the company.
  • Work collaboratively with People Partners, Advisors and the in‑house Legal team to resolve complex ER cases.
  • Identify trends in cases to design, deliver and implement upskilling sessions for functional managers.
  • Continuously review People Instructions, Toolkits and Knowledge Guides and suggest amendments to remain up‑to‑date with legislative changes and good practice.
  • Maintain accurate records of all actions and documentation related to cases through to conclusion.
  • Ensure the casework team mailbox is regularly reviewed and enquiries responded to in a timely manner (usually within 24 hrs).
Key Capabilities & Knowledge
  • Ability to draw together and analyse different points of view.
  • Problem‑solving and conflict management skills coupled with confidence to advise succinctly.
  • Strong negotiating, persuading and influencing skills.
  • Ability to build positive relations quickly with managers, Global Employee Voice reps and, where appropriate, Trade Unions.
  • Assess ER risks and take appropriate steps following HR delegations to achieve resolution within the legal framework.
  • High‑level coaching and advisory skills balanced with influencing and questioning techniques.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and a high level of attention to detail.
  • Prioritise and work well under pressure.
  • Collaborative team player with a drive to continuously improve and bring ideas to fruition.
Experience & Qualifications
  • Minimum of CIPD Level 5 qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Significant experience managing high volumes of complex ER cases at pace.
  • Demonstrable experience upskilling functional managers and mentoring junior team members.
  • Experience working in complex organisations or with complex technologies.
