Qualifications

  • Must be a qualified Veterinary Surgeon eligible to register with the RCVS.

Job description
Overview

An exciting opportunity is available for an Equine Veterinary Surgeon to join a sociable, forward‑thinking team on a full‑time, permanent basis, covering North and East Yorkshire. With the North Yorkshire Moors and East Coast on the doorstep, this role offers an exceptional lifestyle alongside a rewarding clinical career. York is just 30 minutes away, and London can be reached in approximately 2.5 hours by train.

Clinicians benefit from the autonomy to manage cases independently in the field, while also having the option to collaborate closely with one of the largest equine hospital teams in the North of England. Specialist support is readily available across Surgery, Medicine, Imaging and Anaesthesia, providing excellent backup for advice and referrals. The senior ambulatory team includes certificate holders who offer ongoing mentorship and support. Collaboration is at the heart of the team culture, with regular clinical discussions, in‑house CPD and team meetings. Individual interests are actively encouraged, and certificate study is fully supported and funded.

Role

This is a varied equine primary care role, covering:

  • Lameness investigations
  • Equine medicine
  • Dentistry
  • Routine health care
  • Emergency work
  • Basic reproduction work (desirable)
  • Stud work experience would be advantageous but is not essential.

The working pattern includes:

  • 4.5‑day working week
  • 1‑in‑6 out‑of‑hours rota, with a day off in lieu following a worked weekend

Salary starts from £40,000–£45,000 per annum, dependent on experience. More experienced candidates are encouraged to apply, with scope for discussion around package and responsibilities.
