Job summary

A leading construction and infrastructure company is seeking an IVR and Structures Highways Maintenance Apprentice in Birmingham. This role offers a Level 2 apprenticeship in Highways Maintenance, where you'll learn to operate essential vehicles and support highway maintenance tasks. Incident Response Vehicle and Structures Apprentice

We're looking for a IVR and Structures Highways Maintenance Apprentice to join our Transportation Team based in Birmingham, working towards a Level 2 apprenticeship in Highways Maintenance.

Location: Thimble Mill Lane Depot, Birmingham

Hours: 40 hours per week

Salary: £20,800

Start Date: September 2026

How does an apprenticeship work?

As a IVR and Structures Highways Maintenance Apprentice you'll be enrolled onto a Level 2 apprenticeship in Highways Maintenance, giving you the opportunity to earn whilst you learn. You'll work closely with the Transportation team support in the overall design, build and maintenance of infrastructure for highways with a common goal of connecting people

Your day to day will include:

  • Learn how to operate vehicles and plant requiring specialist skills, including undertaking daily vehicle checks, routine maintenance (e.g. oil, water, wiper fluid) and cleaning; and to ensure defect reports are competed and submitted
  • Develop skills to support with all aspects of highway Fencing maintenance works
  • Support in all aspects of highway maintenance works including routine and cyclical maintenance activities and minor civils works
  • Taking responsibility for the safety of yourself and others within your team to ensure compliance with the relevant health and safety legislation and safe operation to protect members of the public
  • Keep records, complete all necessary paperwork, communicate and liaise with other employees of Amey, sub-contractors, the emergency services, the police, the general public, clients and customers
