Applications are invited for a Paediatric Consultant to join the Swansea Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) for 1 session. This is a permanent post commencing as soon as possible and is based within the Swansea regional SARC hub at Unit 3 Langdon House, Langdon Rd SA1.

The service will provide historic and acute sexual assault medicals for children. Clients may access a range of support depending on when they present, and what their needs entail. The Welsh Regional Sexual Assault service will see children up to their 14th birthday who have experienced an acute Sexual assault, or where there are concerns a child may have experienced an acute sexual assault, are seen jointly with a Forensic Medical Examiner (contracted by police) and a Paediatrician. The role of the paediatrician in SARC is to support the FME in the holistic assessment of child and provide a safeguarding medical report. The FME is responsible for taking appropriate forensic samples for the police. It is recognised that the paediatric competencies can be met by a clinician from specialities outside of paediatrics, as per quality standards set out below. The service aims to increase the age cut off for joint examination between FME and a practitioner with paediatric competencies to 16 once staffing has reached a sustainable level.

Main duties of the job

You would be working as part of a friendly and supportive team. Although the work has its challenges, and can be emotional, there is great satisfaction in having time to spend with the child and family and offer some support and reassurance. You will be working together as part of a multiagency team, to achieve the best outcomes for children seen.

  • CCT in Paediatric Child Health, Community Child Health or Sexual Health
