About the role
Nottingham Playhouse is seeking a practical, hands–on Facilities Manager to ensure our Grade II listed building operates safely, efficiently and in line with our values and mission. This is a key operational role responsible for building management, maintenance, compliance and day–to–day facilities operations. You will lead a small team, manage contractors and act as the main point of contact for facilities, health & safety and security across the organisation. You will take a proactive, solution–focused approach–keeping the building safe, functional and welcoming for staff, artists, visitors and audiences, while supporting sustainability and continuous improvement.
Key responsibilities
- Lead day–to–day building and facilities management, including planned and reactive maintenance.
- Manage contractors, service contracts and compliance testing to ensure high–quality, cost–effective delivery.
- Oversee health & safety, fire safety, security systems and statutory compliance.
- Manage cleaning, stage door operations and room setups for hires and events.
- Monitor utilities, building systems and maintenance budgets.
- Act as senior keyholder and provide out–of–hours emergency support when required.
- Champion sustainability and environmental best practice across building operations.
- Line manage facilities staff and support performance, training and development.
About you
We're looking for someone with:
- Proven experience in a facilities, estates or premises management role.
- Strong practical knowledge of building maintenance and contractor management.
- Significant experience in health & safety compliance and legislation.
- A hands–on, problem–solving approach with good mechanical/electrical awareness.
- Experience managing budgets, systems and operational processes.
- Excellent organisational, communication and IT skills.
- A proactive, collaborative attitude and enthusiasm for theatre and live events.
- Willingness to work occasional evenings/weekends and respond to emergencies.
Desirable
- NEBOSH or IOSH qualifications.
- Experience with BMS, sustainability initiatives or capital projects.
- Duty management/event operations experience.
- Knowledge of IT infrastructure support.
