Job description
Overview

Northumbria Healthcare Foundation Trust (NHCT) Community Podiatry Services is seeking a highly motivated, proactive, HCPC registered Specialist Podiatrist to join the department. The post involves assessing, diagnosing, treating and evaluating foot and lower limb conditions in people of all ages, including high‑risk groups such as the elderly and those with an increased risk of amputation. The role aims to maintain mobility and independence, support tissue viability, relieve discomfort, and provide specialist care for patients with diabetes, circulatory disorders, neuropathy, rheumatoid arthritis and biomechanical pathologies.

You will join a motivated and friendly professional team. Duties include delivering evidence‑based podiatry within clinics, GP surgeries, hospitals, patients’ homes and nursing homes. The post mainly covers the North locality area; Alnwick can be the base, but locality base discussions can be negotiated at interview due to the North locality footprint.

Responsibilities
  • Provide professional, quality, planned podiatry care to patients based on clinical needs.
  • Deliver evidence‑based podiatry in clinics, GP surgeries, hospitals, patients’ homes and nursing homes.
  • Work within multidisciplinary teams and act as a source of professional advice to patients, carers, GPs and other healthcare professionals.
  • Integrate into multidisciplinary teams, function within a supportive peer group and work autonomously when appropriate.
  • Support the MDTs to the benefit of patients and contribute to a high standard of patient care.
  • Participate in the department’s competency development programme, with opportunities for progression to band 6 through relevant training.
What we are looking for / Qualifications
  • HCPC registered Specialist Podiatrist.
  • Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and to provide professional advice to patients, carers, GPs and other healthcare professionals.
  • Strong communication, teamwork and autonomous working capabilities.
  • Willingness to engage in ongoing professional development and competency programmes relevant to podiatry.
About NHCT and Locality

NHCT manages three major locality hospitals (North Tyneside, Wansbeck and Hexham) and several smaller community hospitals and clinics from Tynemouth to Berwick on Tweed, plus the Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital. We also provide services in patients’ homes and local community facilities, with a focus on enabling people to live independently at home and avoid hospital admission where appropriate. We are committed to delivering high‑quality patient care and a positive patient experience.
