Our Interventional Radiology Team have an exciting opportunity for a Registered Nursing Associate to join their team!

The Interventional Radiology Recovery area predominantly cares for day case interventional radiology patients who come from a wide range of specialties including Urology, Renal, Vascular, Neuro and Cardiology.

Interventional Radiology is an exciting and fast‑paced work environment where you can develop clinical skills and knowledge relating to many procedures.

You will have the opportunity to develop your leadership and management skills and work as part of a friendly and approachable team.

The shift patterns are 07:30-20:00 or 07:30-17:30 Monday to Friday.

  • The role of the Registered Nursing Associate is to work with the multi professional team and the Registered Nurse to contribute towards the delivery and monitoring of clinical care in line with service and patient needs, as agreed with supervising clinicians.
  • Using the breadth of knowledge across fields of nursing the Registered Nursing Associate will provide holistic and person‑centred care and support for people of all ages and in a variety of settings.
  • The Registered Nursing Associate will work under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, working within the sphere of nursing care and within aspects of the nursing process aligned to the Standards of Proficiency for Nursing Associates.
  • The Registered Nursing Associate will adhere to the Nursing and Midwifery Councils code of conduct (NMC) and must meet the NMC Standards of Proficiency.
  • The post holder will support the Ward Manger/Department Leader in ensuring the delivery of high‑quality patient care upholding patient dignity delivered with kindness and compassion.
  • The post holder will provide and monitor the nursing care for a designated group of patients whilst receiving care at NBT.
  • The post holder will work within their defined scope of practice as part of the wider nursing team, where required they will escalate concerns to a senior member of staff for guidance and support.

Main Duties

  • Provide and monitor care to a delegated caseload of patients under the supervision of a Registered Nurse/ Nurse in Charge of the department.
  • Develop an understanding of all elements of the nursing process and be able to assist the registered nurse in the ongoing assessment, planning, management and evaluation of care.
  • To recognise changes in a patients’ condition which require the intervention of others and understand when and how to refer to the supervising registered nurse and or other senior colleagues for reassessment of patient care.
  • To undertake procedures as detailed within the NMC Standards of Proficiency for Nursing Associates (2018) (Annexe B) to meet the nursing needs of patients in their care.
  • To have a willingness to undertake additional skills and training dependant on department/ ward requirements that are within the NMC Standards of Proficiency for Nursing Associate(2018) (Annexe A&B).
  • To receive delegated duties from the supervising RN and senior colleagues, accepting those that fall within their individual competency level, adhering to the NMC Delegation and Accountability supplement to the Code (NMC Code 2018).
  • To delegate appropriately to other team members, including Health Care Support Workers, family members and other lay carers adhering to the NMC Delegation and Accountability supplement to the Code (NMC Code 2018).
  • Act as a professional role model to others within their sphere of influence.
  • Administer medicines in accordance with the Trust’s policy and procedures.
  • Ensure there is effective communication with patients, careers and family.
  • To work in collaboration with others to ensure the safe and timely discharge of patients with the aim of avoiding readmission.
  • Work cohesively with all members of the ward team and promote effective liaison with all members of the multi-disciplinary team in ensuring that the very best services to patients are provided at all times.
  • Communicate effectively within the team, participate in motivating and supporting team members and maintain confidentiality with patients and carers. Give written and verbal advice/teaching to patients and carers.
  • Promote and maintain a safe environment for all patients
  • Promote a clean environment and the prevention of hospital acquired infections
  • Act in the best interest of the patients and their carers
  • Put people first and provide nursing care that is person centred, safe and compassionate.

Person specification
Education/Training/Qualifications
  • Registered Nursing Associate with Registration on the NMC register
  • Foundation Degree (FdSc) Nursing Associate Level 5
  • GCSE Grade A-C in Math’s & English or functional skills level 2 Math’s and English or equivalent
Work Experience
  • Recent experience of caring for acutely unwell patients in different settings – this can be as a student.
  • Evidence of working effectively as part of the immediate and wider team
  • Experience of providing and receiving complex or sensitive information
  • Experience in Radiology or Theatre setting
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • IT literate to include Microsoft word, Email, keyboard skills
  • Understanding of the scope of the role of the Nursing Associate in context of the nursing and interdisciplinary team and the organisation, and how the role may contribute to service development
  • Understands and acts in line with NMC professional standards for practice contained within NMC Code 2018
  • Knowledge of when to seek advice and elevate concerns to the appropriate professional for expert help and advice
  • Understands requirements for NMC professional Revalidation
  • Understanding of the importance of following procedures and treatment plans
