Job summary

A municipal authority is seeking a Forestry Arboriculture Student for the Summer of 2026 in Kingston upon Thames. The successful candidate will assist skilled arborists in tree maintenance, including pruning, minor removals, and supporting forestry program planning. Position Summary

Assisting team of skilled labourer arborist in tree maintenance/tree care with tree pruning, minor tree removals, tree stumping, traffic control and job site cleanliness.

Assist forestry technical team in tree stake removals, re‑establishing mulch beds on newly planted trees and minor field tree data collection.

Assist in the planning of new tree planting programs and resident communications.

Other duties as assigned.

Shift hours of operation are between 7:00 am and 3:00 pm, (Monday to Friday). Must be available to start full‑time work as of May 4, 2026, varied shifts including evenings and weekends.

Qualifications, Competencies
  • MUST BE ENROLLED IN AND RETURNING TO FULL‑TIME POST SECONDARY STUDIES IN FALL OF 2026 – Verification will be required.
  • Preference will be given to those enrolled in arboriculture, forestry, urban forestry or related field.
  • Knowledge and experience in tree pruning and removal standards and proper techniques.
  • Knowledge and experience using forestry maintenance equipment: chippers and stumpers.
  • Knowledge and experience in general Arboriculture principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of tree species, diseases and insect control.
  • Must have a valid Class ‘G’ driver’s licence.
  • Must demonstrate corporate values of Belonging, Collaboration, Accountability, and Innovation.
Skills, Abilities, Work Demands
  • Ability to work alone or in a team environment.
  • Proven customer service skills.
  • Proof of immunity to Tetanus and Hepatitis B may be required prior to start date.
  • Ability to work outside in inclement weather conditions.
  • Must be able to follow instructions and complete daily work assignments.
  • Must provide and wear CSA approved protective footwear.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a satisfactory criminal record check at candidate’s own expense.
