Good communication skills are required to effectively record problems and report issues to the wider team.

You will be responsible for Manufacturing Engineering support of one of our Industrial ultrafast lasers, contributing to the smooth running of the manufacturing line from end-to-end (kitting of parts, optical sub-assembly, mechanical pre-assembly, optical alignment, system test, performance reports, packing and shipping of the final product).

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain detailed process documentation, including work instructions, standard operating procedures, and process flow maps.
  • Design and purchasing jigs, tooling and fixtures.
  • Evaluate new equipment and technologies to enhance production efficiency and scalability.
  • Define calibration and maintenance requirements for jigs, tooling and fixtures.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve production issues to minimize downtime and enhance product quality.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including R&D, Planning, Quality, and Production to drive process improvements and implement best practices.
  • Contribute to cycle time reduction, cost reduction, quality and reliability initiatives.
  • Conduct training for production staff as new processes or tooling are introduced to ensure adherence to safety and quality standards.
  • Monitor and report on Key Performance Indicators for the product.
Education & Experience
  • An engineering or science degree with relevant industrial experience working with lasers.
  • Hands-on experience testing and troubleshooting equipment in a production environment.
  • A solid understanding of laser physics and the terminology used to characterise laser performance.
Skills & Other Requirements
  • Ability to excel in a cross-organizational and global environment.
  • Ability to work as part of a team but also confident working with your own initiative.
  • Ability to prioritise and manage workload and multiple projects effectively at pace.
  • Ability to keep up to date with technology and apply it to current and future plans.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to communicate effectively with Production, Engineering and Management.
  • Computer literate with good knowledge of MS Excel, Word and Powerpoint.
Preferred Additional Skills
  • Experience reading electronic circuit diagrams, building opto-mechanical assemblies or writing scripts for automated measurements would be advantageous.
  • Experience using ERP systems would be advantageous.
  • Knowledge of cleanroom protocols and safety standards.
  • Proficiency in CAD software and familiarity with Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing principles is a plus.
Working Conditions

Working conditions typical of a climate-controlled and professional office environment, modern mechanical assembly area and Class 1K and 10K cleanrooms.
