Responsibilities

  • Follow end-to-end sterilization processes for surgical instruments used in operations.
  • Prepare sterile consumables by decontaminating, inspecting, and packing.
  • Check, wash, lay up, and pack theatre instrument sets to meet specifications.
  • Safely operate and monitor sterilization machines and equipment.
  • Record and log repairs and missing instruments in the tracking system.

We are currently recruiting for a Sterile Services Technician vacancy. This is an excellent opportunity to join the business at an entry-level and receive world-class training to get you on to a defined career pathway.

About You

TRAINING & WORKING PATTERN
  • Mon - Fri, 8am - 4pm

Thereafter the first couple of weeks, training will continue on your regular shift hours:

  • Mon - Wed, 10am - 6pm
  • Sat, 11am - 7pm
  • Sun, 8am - 4pm
WHAT YOU WILL DO
  • Following a highly regulated end to end sterilization/decontamination process on surgical instruments that have been used in operations in local NHS and private hospitals, to ensure they can be used again safely for the next patient.
  • Ensuring the effective preparation of sterile consumables (dressings, linen, surgical instruments, and equipment) by the process of decontamination, inspection assembly and packing within predefined quality standards.
  • Rigorously checking, washing, laying up and packing sets of theatre instruments to meet contract specifications within predefined quality standards.
  • Safely operating and monitoring machines and equipment (washer/disinfectors, ultrasonic and sterilisers) effectively.
  • Ensuring that repairs and missing instruments or equipment are recorded and logged on the Tracking and Traceability computer system (SynergyTrak).
  • Ensuring that repaired instruments or equipment are returned to stock or the appropriate coded sets or the Trust’s appointed person.

Access to a Level 2 Healthcare Science Assistant Apprenticeship! This is a 12-15 month fully funded programme studying good scientific practice for the Healthcare profession! It is universally applicable outside of STERIS! Completed on the job, you are given 20% of your working hours to study towards the qualification. Further apprenticeships are available throughout the course of your career!
