Trust Doctor (CT1/2 Equivalent) in Trauma & Orthopaedics

Main area Trauma and Orthopaedics. Grade: NHS Medical & Dental: Trust Doctor (CT1/2 Equivalent). Contract: 12 months fixed term, 40 hours per week (full time). Job ref: 279-MWT&O-WTG-CT1/2-091.

Job overview

Full-time with participation in a full shift rota system (1 in 10). The successful trainee will provide day-to-day care for in-patients on wards, HDU and ITU, see all patients prior to surgery, and, whenever possible, be in theatre to assist and learn. In out-patients, they will see new patients under a consultant’s supervision and present cases to consultants for discussion of future management.

Main duties of the job

Provide day-to-day care of patients on surgical/orthopaedic wards, attend ward rounds, operating lists, and general out-patient clinics. Assume responsibility for consultants’ patients on the wards. Work alongside F2 doctors reviewing patients on the trauma orthopaedic ward, children’s ward, and other orthopaedic beds. Arrange admissions and initial management of emergency admissions.

The department has eight orthopaedic consultants who hold out-patients and fracture clinics. Consultants admit trauma patients to Worthing and elective/rehabilitation patients. Daily fracture clinics are held; plaster room facilities, technicians, and full X‑ray support are available. CT and MRI scanners are at Worthing Hospital, and radiology is computerised with PACS.

Experience / Qualifications

• Full GMC registration with a licence to practice.
• Advanced life support certificate from the Resuscitation Council UK or equivalent.
• MRCS qualification or in process of sitting the exam, or appropriate specialist qualification.
