A supportive care team is looking for a dedicated individual to assist a young lady in Galashiels who has cerebral palsy. You will engage in various activities, provide personal care, and facilitate social inclusion. This role is perfect for someone who is reliable, kind, and enjoys working in a fun and relaxed environment. A clean driving licence is required, and the position includes both day and sleepover shifts. The role offers £13.50 for day hours and £11.44 for sleepovers, along with pro-rata annual leave.
I’m a 29-year-old young lady who is looking for someone to join my loyal and trusty team. We all have great fun!
I have cerebral palsy, which does create a few challenges – I use a wheelchair, have learning difficulties and cannot speak but I am an awesome communicator. Cerebral palsy has not stopped me having a normal life or spending a lot of the day laughing. I have a wicked sense of humour. I live in a cool house in Clovenfords that is adapted especially for me and my team. If we’re going out, I have an adapted van, so you need to be a driver and not be fazed by a big vehicle.
A typical day for me is a mixture of physio, activities and chill time. No day is the same and they usually fly by. I like going to Karaoke, walks, music and art clubs, restaurants and pubs, cinema, swimming, discos and parties. At home I like to paint, read, watch TV, play games and cook. I love food. I keep fit and healthy, I love people, friends and family and I am almost always up for anything!
My team are great. They all work to a high professional standard in a relaxed, supportive atmosphere. They are flexible, creative, resilient people who are passionate about their job. They work collaboratively and speak to each other about my welfare; they help me with daily tasks, take responsibility, are honest, reliable, kind and always try and make things better for me.
I have a fab family who are on hand to help me and my team. Whether it’s fixing windows that have fallen out of their frames, making communication books, getting the right equipment or working with my team on physio or speech therapy, they are always there to help.
