  • £33,183 The minimum amount you’ll earn during training
  • £39,671 Your pay after completing basic trade training
  • Age From 17 years & 9 months to 28 years & 11 months

You are a troop commander, but you are also prepared for strategic operations, not just tactical ones.

As an officer in the Royal Logistic Corps (RLC), you will command a team of up to 80 soldiers undertaking a variety of crucial roles at home and abroad. The RLC is represented in every theatre of operations and in every military unit, supporting the Army in everything it does. Specialising in anything from port operations to bomb disposal, the work that you and your soldiers do will underpin every operation. You'll become an expert in leadership and management and gain valuable qualifications that will make you highly sought after if you return to civilian life.

The Royal Logistic Corps are the Army’s professional logisticians keeping the Field Army marching, its helicopters flying, its vehicles moving, and its tanks and guns firing. We enable its deployment and supply it with everything it needs, wherever it operates, throughout the world.

Command a troop of highly motivated Royal Logistic Corps soldiers in a huge variety of roles.

Deploy on operations and exercises, providing essential support to the Army.

Enjoy a constantly varied and rewarding career, including support to humanitarian relief operations and military deployments.

Become a logistics generalist or specialise as an Ammunition Technical Officer, Petroleum Operator, Port and Maritime Operations Officer, or Contracts Officer.

Experience professional development throughout your career - gain accreditation while you serve.

Qualifications: 72 UCAS Points from at least two A-level passes and 35 ALIS points at GCSE (34 for SCEs) from seven GCSE/SCE subjects (including Grade C in English, Maths, and a science or a foreign language).

Step 1
You’ll start your career on the 44-week Commissioning Course at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. This is for all officer cadets, regardless of the Corps that they’re hoping to join.

Step 2
Next, it’s the 19-week Royal Logistic Corps Troop Commander's Course, where you will learn about military logistics at the Defence School of Logistics, Policing and Administration. This prepares you for your first posting as a Royal Logistic Corps Troop Commander, where you could deploy as a Battle Group’s only RLC officer, providing fuel, supply, ammunition, movements, and distribution expertise. Apply your operational decision-making or strategic planning skills and later you could choose to specialise as an Ammunition Technical Officer, Petroleum Operator, Port and Maritime Officer, or Contracts Officer.

Qualifications you could get after training

Post Graduate Certificate in Conflict and Leadership studies

Membership of Chartered Management Institute

BSc (Hons) in Logistics Management

Opportunity to gain higher qualifications as your career progresses

You'll earn £33,183 during your year of training at the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, before commissioning and becoming a Second Lieutenant, on £39,671 a year.

How to Apply

Once your online application has been approved, you'll have an interview with a senior recruiter, who will talk to you about the corps that you would like to join. You'll have the chance to learn more about your chosen corps, although you won't make your final decision until you're in training at Sandhurst.
