Location

We are currently looking to recruit two Industrial Electricians to work across the Tadcaster/Castleford and Hull regions in our maintenance department within our Wastewater business area. This is a mobile worker role.

Work type

Permanent. You’ll be working 37 hours per week. Out of hours, weekend working, and bank holidays will be worked as part of a structured stand‑by rota. Once fully trained you will be assessed for working on your own and will be required to participate in an out of hours standby rota which will include evenings, weekends, and overnight callouts (no more than one week in every four).

Where you fit in

As an Industrial Electrician you will undertake maintenance of Yorkshire Water’s electrical and mechanical assets across wastewater treatment and pumping installations. You will work unsupervised in remote locations, deliver planned and reactive maintenance, and respond to emergency calls both in and out of hours (on‑call rota). Your responsibilities include diagnosing and repairing faults, installing and commissioning new plant, and supervising approved contract partners.

Key responsibilities
  • Manage and prioritise your own workload effectively.
  • Build and maintain relationships with operational customers, colleagues, suppliers, and contract partners.
  • Adhere to the Health and Safety policy, identify hazards, provide mitigation, and report to the hazard database.
  • Supervise contract partners, provide risk assessments and method statements where required.
  • Use a Toughbook/iPad to capture work activity and job status.
  • Assist in the development and training of apprentices and less experienced team members.
  • Identify and report follow‑on work or areas for enhancement.
  • Specify parts and equipment required for procurement.
Qualifications and experience you will need
  • Recognised Electrical Craft/Technician Apprenticeship and either a City & Guilds / ONC / BTEC / NVQ / HNC / HND or equivalent in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or Eng Tech.
  • Full valid driving licence (with no more than six points).
Desirable qualifications
  • IET 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (City and Guilds 2382‑18).
  • CompEx 1 – 4.
  • HNC Electrical/Electronic Engineering.
Mandatory technical knowledge
  • Safe isolation to the current IET regulations.
  • Time‑served industrial electrician experience.
  • Fault finding on control circuits up to the PLC.
  • IT literacy (e.g., MS Office).
  • Ability to produce maintenance reports.
  • Experience fault finding with industrial motors and starters.
  • Experience fault finding with industrial 3‑phase systems.
  • Experience working with rotating equipment.
  • Experience fault finding on LV control circuits.
Desirable technical knowledge
  • Experience of pneumatics.
  • Work within ATEX standards.
  • Experience maintaining UPS systems.
  • Fault finding experience of soft-start or variable speed drives.
  • Fault finding experience of actuated valves.
Additional skills
  • Experience in the water or wastewater sector, or broader utilities/process/manufacturing sectors.
  • Proven track record of maintaining and repairing 3‑phase rotating machinery and associated control systems.
  • Systematic approach to fault finding using industry best practice; ability to mentor others.
  • Ability to work within confined spaces; must pass strict medical criteria (BMI, vision, blood pressure, hearing, spirometry).
