Bloomberg runs on data. Our products are fueled by powerful information. We combine data and context to paint the whole picture for our clients, around the clock – from around the world. In Data, we are responsible for delivering this data, news and analytics through innovative technology – quickly and accurately. We apply problem-solving skills to identify innovative workflow efficiencies, and we implement technology solutions to enhance our systems, products and processes - all while providing platinum customer support to our clients.
The Team
The Private Markets & Foundational Data team is responsible for building and maintaining Bloomberg’s core private markets datasets, covering private companies, funds, private credit, securities, deals and transactions and the entities and structures that connect them. The team operates at the intersection of domain expertise, data architecture, and product enablement, supplying authoritative data that is consumed across Bloomberg products, analytics, and client workflows.
Private Markets data is inherently complex and less standardised than public markets data. Company structures evolve quickly, ownership can be opaque, and data must be sourced and reconciled from multiple providers and internal systems. As Bloomberg continues to expand its private markets coverage, the team is focused on modernising data structures, strengthening metadata and semantic alignment, and ensuring that private markets data integrates cleanly into Bloomberg’s broader data ecosystem.
What’s the role?
The Private Markets Data Modeller is responsible for the structural coherence and consistency of data models across all Private Markets datasets. The role ensures that logical data models, field definitions, classifications, and metadata are well designed, aligned, and scalable as coverage grows and new use cases emerge.
Reporting directly to the Head of Private Markets Data, this role works horizontally across the department, partnering with Data, Product, and Engineering teams to guide modelling decisions and resolve inconsistencies. While not directly responsible for building ontologies or knowledge graphs, the role works closely with Bloomberg’s central Semantic Modelling team to ensure that data structures and relationships can be cleanly represented in semantic models and metadata systems.
Day to day, the role combines hands‑on data modelling with stakeholder engagement and oversight, translating product and client needs into durable data structures that support downstream analytics, interoperability, and long‑term data health.
