Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN)
Job description
Head Registered Veterinary Nurse - Small Animal

We have an exciting opportunity for a full-time Head Veterinary Nurse to join our friendly and supportive team at White Cross Vets, Eccleshill. This would be an ideal role for an existing head nurse or an RVN keen to develop.

You will be supported by our practice director who is available to mentor and coach in people management as well as our practice manager who can support with the logistics of practice day to day.

The Rota

This is a full-time role, working 37.5 hours per week, with inclusion in the Saturday rota (with TOIL). There is no out-of-hours requirement, supporting a healthy work–life balance.

About the Practice

Our Eccleshill practice is in a fantastic location, easily accessible by public transport, with a bus stop right outside the practice. There are plenty of local shops nearby for lunch breaks, including a particularly good fish and chip shop and a lovely café serving warm sandwiches. Starbucks is a short walk away and you are close to our other sites in Leeds for support and collaboration.

The practice is well equipped with dental x-ray, main x-ray, a new ultrasound machine, an in-house laboratory, and Sedivue for urine analysis. We are also currently working towards achieving ISFM Cat Friendly Clinic status, reflecting our commitment to high-quality, patient-focused care.

As part of White Cross Vets, which has 21 clinics across the UK, you’ll benefit from being part of a wider group that offers strong support, shared learning, and genuine opportunities for career development and progression. White Cross has it's own people support team located in Leeds, available to give guidance and support.

About the Team

The Eccleshill team currently consists of 3 Veterinary Surgeons, 3 RVNs, 1 SVN, and 2 Client Care Coordinators. We also have a roving dental vet as well as a local site with vets covering areas such as imaging, cardio, emergency and critical care and complex soft tissue / orthopaedic procedures.

We actively promote open dialogue within the practice and place real value on team input. Decisions that affect the practice are made collaboratively, with feedback encouraged and listened to.

Our team wellbeing afternoons are something we genuinely enjoy and take pride in. Recent activities have included lantern building, terrarium making, portrait painting, and creating Valentine’s cards for colleagues, as well as a festive visit from Santa Claus at Christmas. Outside of work, we enjoy socialising together too - from meals out to axe throwing!

“As a current employee and one who has worked for the practice for over two years, I feel very lucky to have my role here. The ongoing and unconditional support is better than any I have received elsewhere. The team have a great relationship and are always happy to help each other in times of need. I honestly could not imagine working anywhere else!”

– Stef Wood, Practice Manager
