Description

The Ellison Institute of Technology (EIT) Oxford addresses humanity’s greatest challenges by transforming science and technology into impactful global solutions. Focus areas include health, food security, sustainable agriculture, climate change, clean energy, and AI-driven government innovation. EIT Oxford combines groundbreaking research with practical applications to deliver lasting results.

A key feature of EIT Oxford’s mission is its upcoming 300,000-square-foot research facility at the Oxford Science Park, scheduled to open in 2027. This state-of-the-art campus will include advanced labs, an oncology and preventative care clinic, and collaborative spaces to strengthen its partnership with the University of Oxford. It will also host the Ellison Scholars, fostering innovation for societal benefit.

The Pathogen Mission emphasizes EIT’s innovative approach, utilizing Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) and Oracle’s cloud technology to develop a global pathogen metagenomics system. This initiative aims to improve diagnostics, enable early epidemic warnings, and guide treatments by profiling antimicrobial resistance. The objective is to deliver certified diagnostic tools suitable for labs, hospitals, and public health settings.

EIT Oxford promotes a culture of collaboration, innovation, and resilience, valuing diverse expertise to develop sustainable solutions to humanity’s persistent challenges.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a DevOps Engineer within the Pathogen Programme at EIT. In this role, you will collaborate with the Product Engineering, Data Engineering, and Product teams to implement scalable, secure, and reliable features. Your experience, preferably in OCI, will be leveraged to enhance the security and performance of our cloud environments. Flexibility, a security-first mindset, and a proactive approach are essential, as the team operates within a start-up environment. You will be involved in building and maintaining infrastructure, designing secure automation pipelines, managing cloud environments, and ensuring system security and compliance. You will play a vital role in delivering end-to-end solutions that are seamless, efficient, and uphold the highest security standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and maintain secure cloud infrastructure using Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).
  • Develop and maintain infrastructure as code (IaC) solutions with tools such as Terraform, ensuring secure and repeatable cloud deployments.
  • Implement and manage CI/CD pipelines with a focus on automated security testing, deployment, and monitoring.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to embed security from feature development through deployment.
  • Conduct regular security audits and vulnerability assessments to identify and mitigate risks.
  • Work with internal and external R&D teams to incorporate security best practices into new and existing features.
  • Ensure compliance with security standards and regulations (e.g., ISO 27001, SOC2).
  • Implement monitoring solutions to detect and respond to security incidents in real-time.
  • Troubleshoot infrastructure and security issues in production environments.
  • Mentor junior engineers in security best practices and DevOps methodologies.
  • Collaborate with technical leads to improve security processes and workflows continuously.
