Job summary

A leading containment solutions provider in Heywood is looking for a Design Engineer to produce designs for containment solutions. In this permanent role, you will be responsible for taking projects from concept to delivery and working closely with teams on innovative product designs. Ideal candidates will have a strong background in mechanical design within the medical sector, using Solidworks and AutoCad. Competitive salary starting from £40,000 and benefits including bonuses and salary sacrifice schemes are offered.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years' experience as a mechanical design engineer in the medical and pharmaceutical industries.
  • Experience in working with aseptic processes and containment devices.
  • Ability to produce process and pneumatic diagrams.

Job description
We are currently looking for a Design Engineer to join our growing team in Heywood on a permanent contract.

As a Design Engineer, you will be part of a team in our long-established business, delivering projects and developing market leading solutions that benefit our extensive client base.

This is a full-time and permanent role.

Our clean, bright 63,000 sq. ft. site in Heywood, Lancashire is the largest containment factory in the North West, just minutes from the M66 and M62. We have invested £1m in our facility, with state-of-the-art machinery and excellent staff facilities including showers, canteen and plenty of on-site parking.

Your Role

As a Design Engineer, you will:

  • Produce standard and bespoke designs for containment, aseptic, and sterile applications
  • Take ownership of the Project Life Cycle from product concept through to delivery with the customer
  • Work closely with the Sales Team to offer concept design solutions during quotation and tender process
  • Work closely with others in the Engineering Team to help develop new products for new and emerging markets
  • Work closely with the Head of Engineering to develop and improve existing designs
  • Produce Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams
  • Drive design for Manufacture and Design for Assembly best practices
  • Create General Arrangement drawings, detailed manufacturing drawings, and bills of materials from a blank sheet of paper
  • Ensure product designs comply with regulatory requirements such as EU GMP and ISO14644
About You

To join us, you will need:

  • Proven experience as a mechanical design engineer, with a minimum of 3 years’ experience working specifically within the medical and pharmaceutical industries
  • Demonstrable experience in working with aseptic processes and containment devices
  • Proven experience in working on projects from concept through to final detail design
  • Proven experience using both Solidworks 3D and AutoCad 2D design software
  • Proven ability to produce process and pneumatic diagrams
  • Experience of sheet metal design and fabrication.
  • Ability to build long standing customer relationships
  • Strong problem solver with a good attention to detail
  • Ability to plan, schedule and coordinate effectively
  • Self-motivated with a strong results driven approach
  • A creative approach and an innovative mindset with the ability to come up with new ideas and improvements for existing processes, products or designs

Ideally, you’ll be qualified to degree level or a minimum HNC level with relevant industry experience.
