Location: RAF Brize Norton, Carterton, Oxfordshire, OX18 3LX

Employment type: Permanent | Mon-Fri, 40 hours per week

Overview

At RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire, Serco has been providing multi-activity and engineering support since 1997. Serco proudly supports the RAF and MoD, supplying around 20 different services onsite. RAF Brize Norton is the largest operating base within the Royal Air Force, providing air transport and air-to-air refuelling. You will contribute as an Aircraft Structures Technician within the structures bay, performing composite repairs on C-17 aircraft, both in the hangar and on the line.

The bay is responsible for RAF Brize Norton C-17 aircraft structural and composite repairs. Work is carried out within the structures bay and on the aircraft. The team works at height and in confined spaces on the C-17 aircraft.

Responsibilities
  • Current working knowledge and experience of laminating and trimming composite materials, including carbon fibre and fibreglass wet layups, vacuum bagging, hot bonder curing, damage assessment, scarfing, honeycomb core replacement, surface preparation, and adhesive preparation and use.
  • Competency to operate workshop machines and hand tools.
  • Interpret and work from engineering drawings, technical manuals, and work instructions.
  • Functional IT skills to access technical information and maintenance records.
  • Document all work performed and maintain accurate records.
  • Collaborate with other team members and departments to ensure efficient workflow and high-quality output.
  • Ensure all repairs and rectification tasks are correctly certified and that records of maintenance carried out are correct and complete.
Qualifications
  • Working knowledge and experience of laminating and trimming of composite materials.
  • Recognised qualification such as BTEC/ONC/NVQ Level 3 or equivalent, or military course in Advanced composite repairs.
  • Previous experience in Armed Forces or industry on composite manufacture, maintenance, or repair activities.
