Overview

Are you a commercially minded finance leader looking to make your mark in one of the UK's fastest-growing, high-performing chilled food businesses?

Due to our phenomenal continued growth The Compleat Food Group are looking for a further Commercial Finance Controller to partner with our commercial and leadership teams, providing strategic insight, financial challenge, and direction that will help shape the next stage of our growth journey.

This is a pivotal role within a rapidly expanding chilled food business — perfect for someone who thrives in a dynamic commercial finance environment, enjoys influencing commercial strategy, and wants to progress their career in a business where finance truly drives decision-making.

The Role

As Commercial Finance Controller, you’ll act as a key business partner to our sales, marketing, and category teams — delivering insight that turns data into strategy. You’ll lead customer P&L management, pricing strategy, and promotional investment evaluation across both branded and retailer own brand portfolios, driving sustainable margin improvement and commercial success.

You’ll manage a talented team of commercial finance professionals, fostering a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and accountability. With the business continuing to deliver and grow at pace, this role offers significant exposure to senior leadership and a genuine opportunity to develop into a broader finance or commercial leadership position.

What you will be doing
  • Partner with commercial teams to drive performance across major retail, discounter, and e-commerce channels
  • Provide financial challenge and insight into pricing, promotions, and investment decisions
  • Lead customer P&L analysis, profitability modelling, and strategic planning
  • Own commercial P&L forecasting and long-range planning, highlighting risks and opportunities
  • Deliver accurate and insightful commercial performance reporting
  • Evaluate cost-to-serve, pricing strategy, and commercial terms across branded and own-label operations
  • Strengthen financial governance and control across trade spend and promotional investment
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a small high-performing finance team
  • Drive continuous improvement in systems, forecasting tools, and financial processes
Who we are looking for
  • Qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA) with strong post-qualification experience
  • Proven track record in a senior commercial finance role within FMCG, retail, or chilled food
  • Strong understanding of branded and retailer own brand business models
  • Commercially astute with excellent analytical, modelling, and influencing skills
  • Confident communicator, able to build trust and challenge constructively across functions
  • Inspirational leader with a passion for developing talent and driving business growth
