Overview
Clerk of Works (Passive Fire) at Rider Levett Bucknall RLB. Location: Midlands (Birmingham area).
Role Responsibilities
- Oversee and inspect passive fire protection installations to ensure compliance with fire safety regulations, design specifications, and quality standards
- Lead risk management workshops with project stakeholders to review quality risks for work packages
- Verifying compliance of the works with contractual drawings
- Measuring and quality checking building materials
- Finding solutions to issues in partnership with the project teams
- Monitoring progress and reporting to construction managers, Architects and clients
- Liaising with contractors, engineers and surveyors
- Raising rework and defects, and preparing reports using our digital field tools
- Keeping detailed records of work
- Performing regular inspections of the work, materials and products on-site and comparing completed work with drawings and contract specification
- Carrying out reviews of record information with contractors and subcontractors to check the sufficiency of the information
- Checking that building regulations, health and safety, legal and ecological requirements are achieved
- Ensuring that the works are carried out in line with the quality defined by the Works Information
- Maintain and grow client relationships
- May be required to work out of hours shifts depending on project and contract
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will provide technical expertise to deliver commissions and projects across all RIBA stages, including working closely with designers and consultants to identify and advise on technical quality matters through design, construction and handover.
Qualifications
- Membership or working towards the Institute of Clerk of Works and Construction Inspectorate (ICWCI)
- Previous experience as PFP installer and supervisor is required
- Sector relevant qualifications, NVQ Level 2 Passive Fire Protection as a minimum
- Experience in developing and implementing processes for effective defect management
- Demonstrate up to date technical knowledge
- Keeping up to date with current regulations and compliance
- Meticulous in ensuring all work meets the highest standards
- Strong ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders
- Capable of finding practical solutions to complex issues
Experience
- Previous experience as a Clerk of Works on large-scale residential and commercial projects
- Experience in developing and implementing processes for effective rework and defects management
- Experience in using document management systems to review and comment on drawings and specifications
- Experience in utilising digital field tools to monitor and report on rework and defects
- Demonstrating excellent up-to-date technical knowledge relevant to the role
- Capable of working as part of a project delivery team to coach, mentor and guide stakeholders on technical matters
