Overview

Civil Engineer role at BakerHicks

Be part of building the infrastructure that powers the future. We’re looking for a Civil Engineer to join our growing team at BakerHicks, delivering high-quality designs for power and energy infrastructure projects – including substations, grid connections, and renewable energy facilities – alongside exciting work in other sectors such as industrial, defence, and transportation.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Designing and specifying civil works for large-scale projects, including drainage, external works, earthworks, and utilities.
  • Producing detailed drawings, specifications, and reports that meet the highest technical standards.
  • Working closely with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver safe, efficient, and sustainable solutions.
  • Reviewing calculations and subcontractor designs for compliance and quality.
  • Supporting and mentoring early-career engineers, while contributing to technical excellence and best practice.
What We’re Looking For
  • Degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Experience delivering projects in one or more sectors – power sector experience desirable.
  • Working towards Chartered or Incorporated status (ICE or IStructE).
  • Strong understanding of drainage design, earthworks, and external works.
  • Proficiency in Civil 3D, AutoCAD (or similar) for modelling, layouts, and draughting designs.
  • Good knowledge of Eurocodes, British Standards, CDM regulations, and BIM processes.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with clients and multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Eligibility for security clearance (essential for certain projects).
