Locum Supervising Social Worker – Fostering (Children’s Services)
£35.00 per hour
Wigan Council
Contract: Locum | Full-time

I am looking for an experienced Supervising Social Worker to join the Fostering Team at Wigan Council on a locum basis. This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified professional with a strong background in fostering and statutory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Hold a caseload of foster carers and provide regular supervision and support
• Undertake annual foster carer reviews
• Attend and contribute to all associated meetings including LAC reviews, strategy meetings, and placement planning meetings
• Complete relevant training and CPD
• Participate in fostering panel as required
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records

Requirements

• Qualified Social Worker with current registration with Social Work England
• Significant post‑qualifying experience in fostering services (experience essential)
• Strong understanding of fostering regulations, safeguarding, and statutory frameworks
• Ability to manage a complex caseload and meet deadlines
• Excellent communication and report‑writing skills

Additional Information

Thursdays are designated office days for all staff.
Duty days are also office based.
Hybrid working pattern available outside of these designated days.
Supportive team environment with structured supervision.
