Care Call provides support to over 8,500 vulnerable individuals across Gateshead, and offers technology‑enabled support to give peace of mind for both service users and family members. The service responds to alerts raised via a wide range of technology‑enabled care, giving support, advice and providing a mobile response service to our residents.
They provide a point of contact out of hours for all Council services dealing with queries and giving advice and information as required, as well as providing emergency response and support to vulnerable residents in our Council sheltered housing schemes. The team are also key drivers in developing further innovative telecare and telehealth services to provide technological solutions to enable higher levels of user independence.
The roles consist of in‑based and out‑based duties; therefore any applicant must hold a valid UK Driving Licence.
Our staff monitor our 24/7 Alarm Receiving Centre, providing a mobile response and support for our vulnerable clients across Gateshead. It is a fast‑paced environment, which deals with many issues so it’s essential applicants can work well in a busy environment.
In‑based duties will consist of call handling and associated administrative tasks. Our operators are also the main point of contact for the Council out of hours. Calls will involve taking messages and passing information on to the relevant staff on call. These will include major incidents, road or drainage issues, homelessness queries and Adult & Children’s Social Care emergency calls.
Out‑based duties will involve falls and mobile response, pre‑planned annual visits to our clients, new client visits, installation of technology & key safes, and fault checking of equipment. Candidates must hold a valid manual UK Driving Licence.
The successful candidate will have experience of working in a customer services environment or healthcare role, along with the ability to manage emergency / emotionally challenging situations over the telephone or within a personal care setting. You must be able to demonstrate respect for privacy, dignity, and choice in relation to care needs, and have a patient and sympathetic approach along with the ability to communicate effectively, working on your own initiative and as part of a team.
You should have a flexible approach to working hours and the ability to cover a 24‑hour shift pattern, good IT skills and an NVQ level 2 in customer services, social care, or housing support or willing to work towards.
Our staff work various shift patterns over a 15 week period, to ensure cover 24 hours 7 days a week.
We are recruiting to multiple part‑time positions up to 33 hours per week on various shift patterns.

You’ll be paid a competitive salary starting on £26,824 rising to £28,142 per annum (pro‑rate) plus, additional allowances where relevant.
