As a Cable Operative, you'll be instrumental in expanding and maintaining our core telecoms access networks. This isn't just about pulling cables; it's about connecting people, businesses, and the future. You'll be hands‑on with fibre cable pulling, installing cables directly to customer comms, and precisely identifying the right cables in diverse environments.

Responsibilities
  • Underground Cabling Expertise: Rodding & roping ducts, installing sub‑ducts, and blowing fibre.
  • Diverse Cable Handling: Work confidently with conventional fibre, blown fibre, copper, and CATV cables, always to client specifications.
  • Safety First: Ensure all equipment meets recognised safety standards, because your well-being is paramount.
  • Internal & External Works: Tackle internal cabling tasks and manage small cable pulls by hand.
  • Digital Proficiency: Seamlessly complete daily required apps for your workstream, including risk assessments and crucial checks on your van, tools, and plant.
  • Customer Champion: Exhibit professional conduct and outstanding customer care when interacting with service providers, end‑users, the public, and Virgin Media colleagues.
  • Quality Driven: Adhere strictly to Virgin Media's high‑quality standards.
  • Map & Plan Reading: Expertly read and understand job packs, including cable maps, site drawings, SLDs, and BOMs.
  • Problem Solving: Report and produce detailed blockage maps.
  • Accurate Reporting: Record all changes and updates from your work, keeping your line manager informed upon task completion.
  • Safety Compliance: Work safely and ensure full NRSWA compliance.
  • On‑Call Readiness: Participate in an ERS rota approximately once every 5‑6 weeks, providing 24/7 availability for urgent calls.
Requirements
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication to collaborate effectively with colleagues and customers.
  • Independence & Teamwork: The ability to work with minimal supervision while also being a valuable team player.
  • Safety Certifications: Rooftop, RF safety awareness, and First Aid at heights. IPAF & PASMA certifications are a must.
  • Experience: 2+ years of relevant experience.
  • Organisational Prowess: Ability to prioritise, organise, and manage tasks efficiently.
  • Technical Knowledge: Sound practical knowledge and experience in Civils, Cabling, and business installations.
  • Attention to Detail: Good observational, analytical skills, and a keen eye for detail.
  • Professional Presentation: A well‑presented and professional demeanor.
  • Driving Licence: A full, valid driving licence is essential.
  • Advantageous Certifications: PIA tickets SA002 & S7 are a significant advantage.
  • NRSWA Qualified: Holding an SLG unit 2 qualification.
  • Desirable: Confined spaces certification.
