Job description

We ae looking for a Business Chemist who is an expert in the development, application and interpretation of analytical chemistry to support our sodium bicarbonate and sodium chloride operations in Northwich, Cheshire.

This role is ideal for a motivated professional with a strong scientific background and proven experience leading laboratory teams within a pharmaceutical or food manufacturing environment.

You will play a key role in managing laboratory operations, interpreting analytical results, and collaborating across departments to support business objectives and ensure high standards of quality and compliance

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead, manage, and develop a laboratory team, ensuring effective day?to?day operations across 2 sites
  • Leadership of specific investigative tasks that support process efficiency, quality improvement and customer satisfaction
  • Carry out analytical testing as required to ensure the laboratory team can meet the business needs
  • Instigate, lead and interpret the outcome of technically complex project work, supporting the business development programme
  • Contribute to development project teams wherever analytical or scientific assistance is required
  • Development of new and existing analytical procedures. Where applicable manage introduction of new laboratory technology (Specify – Procure – Commission – Train)
  • Directs and manages the compilation, review and implementation of validation protocols and reports
  • Reviews laboratory standards to assess compliance with regulatory and customer expectations (including calibration records
  • Ensure COSHH procedures are in place and being followed
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • An honours degree in Chemistry, supported by practical laboratory experience and exposure to industrial environments
  • Demonstrated capability in investigative analysis, research, and development activities
  • In?depth knowledge of analytical and experimental techniques and equipment commonly used within an inorganic chemistry laboratory
  • The ability Kil quickly learn, adapt, and implement new analytical methodologies
  • Proven experience in the development, validation, and application of analytical methods
  • A sound understanding of relevant legislation, regulatory requirements, and industry standards
  • Competence in using computer software and statistical tools for data analysis, plant performance evaluation, and technical report writing
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with both internal teams and external stakeholders
  • A proactive, self?motivated approach, with the ability to work independently and coordinate resources as required
  • A full, valid driving license
