Job description
Bridge Inspector – Up and Under

Up and Under Ltd, a member of the RSK Group, is an engineering consultancy undertaking inspections and surveys of bridges, buildings and other structures for the transportation, utilities and built sectors. This full‑time, permanent role is based in Crewe, Cheshire and offers hybrid working from home or from one of our many alternative RSK offices across the UK.

Responsibilities
  • Inspection of a variety of structures including those of nationally strategic importance
  • Leading inspection teams
  • Preparation of reports, drawings, and schedules of defects
  • Undertaking complex one‑off projects
  • All work is conducted under our comprehensive quality, health and safety systems; we are ISO compliant
  • Hybrid working and site‑based projects with the balance dependent on commercial requirements
  • Work may involve travel throughout the UK; a full UK driving licence is required, and night and weekend work may be required with overtime rates applied
Essential Requirements
  • Experience of bridge inspection or maintenance (highways or rail; other relevant structural inspection experience may be considered)
  • Sound technical understanding of construction materials and forms
  • Good basic office IT skills (Word, Excel, databases, CAD, web research, email, file management)
  • Well organised, focused, and able to work with and motivate others
  • Interest in the fundamentals of engineering and able to communicate that to others
  • Proven high‑quality report writing skills
  • Knowledge/experience of investigation methods of common construction materials
  • A full UK driving licence
  • Reasonable level of fitness for work involving walking over rough terrain, stairs, embankments, ladders, scaffolding, and potentially adverse weather conditions
Preferable Qualifications
  • HND in a relevant construction discipline
  • NVQ in a relevant construction discipline
  • EngTech
  • BICS (Inspector)
  • STE03, 04, 05 or 07 (or any combination)
  • Successful candidates will undertake drug and alcohol screening prior to and during employment, strictly enforced by us and our clients
  • The successful candidate will be working towards or have obtained the Bridge Inspector Certification Scheme (BICS) to inspector level or Network Rail STE levels
