Job description

Mercury13 is seeking a dynamic Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead Bristol City Women into its next era of growth and transform the club into a sporting and commercial force.

Reporting to the club’s Board of Directors, this role is ideal for someone with a sharp business acumen, a demonstrated track record of leadership, who thrives in fast-moving startup environments, and has deep conviction in the commercial viability of women’s football.

This role will be expected to manage finances, drive revenues, optimise operations, and build a high-performance team and culture. The ideal candidate will have proven leadership experience and will be well‑versed in financial management, commercial development and strategic execution within the field of football.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement a comprehensive multi‑year strategy that ensures substantial year‑on‑year growth across revenue and fandom. Establish the club as a premier institution within domestic and international women’s football.
  • Commercial Development: Drive significant sponsorship, matchday, and retail revenue growth.
  • Financial Management: Take full ownership of the club’s P&L, ensuring financial discipline while pursuing strategic growth opportunities. Maintain transparency and accountability in all financial dealings from budgeting to monthly reporting.
  • Operational Excellence: Modernise club operations, ensuring efficiency, scalability, and adherence to best practices. Implement software tools where applicable to streamline processes and maximise productivity.
  • High Performance Culture: Build a high‑performing team and culture across business and football operations. Establish an organisational structure optimised for commercial success and continuous growth.
  • Stakeholder Relations: Represent the club in media and community engagements, league and football governance forums, and industry conferences. Foster strong relationships with league officials, civic leaders, and key stakeholders.
  • Facilities & Infrastructure Development: Oversee the strategic planning and execution of any potential infrastructure projects, including stadium and training facility enhancements, ensuring the club’s long‑term sustainability and success.
  • Governance & Board Collaboration: Ensure the highest standards of corporate governance and compliance with regulations, working effectively with the board to drive strategic decisions and maintain accountability with regular updates to the ownership group ensuring alignment on milestones, outcomes and ongoing initiatives.
  • Commitment to Women’s Football: Champion the growth and professionalisation of women’s football, actively engaging in initiatives that advance the sport’s visibility and commercial viability.
  • Demonstrated experience leading organisations and/or teams through high‑growth environments.
  • Demonstrated track‑record of growing commercial revenue.
  • Natural ability to pitch prospective partners and close commercial deals.
    • Creativity and resourcefulness will be essential.
  • Strong financial literacy, with demonstrated ability to fully own a P&L and implement best practices in financial planning and reporting.
  • In‑depth knowledge of corporate governance, regulation and general management best practices.
  • Deep understanding of the professional sports, media and entertainment landscape, including fan engagement, media rights, and facility management.
    • Experience in the business of football and club operations is essential.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships at all levels, from grassroots communities to senior executives.
  • Experience operating in a fast‑paced, unstructured environment, finding creative solutions to complex challenges and eyes wide open to the nascency of the women’s game in Europe.
  • A strong commitment to the development and success of women’s football, with the ambition to drive lasting impact in the industry.
  • Willingness to work on a non‑traditional schedule, including weekends and travel as necessary.
