Assistant Psychologist

We have an exciting opportunity for a twelve‑month fixed‑term appointment in the North East Cumbria Community Treatment Team (CTT). As an Assistant Psychologist you will be part of a team delivering psychological interventions within the wider multidisciplinary team. Successful applicants will receive regular supervision and support from Clinical Psychologists, Psychological Therapists, other therapeutic modalities, multi‑disciplinary staff, and peer workers.

We offer a range of community mental health treatments across North Cumbria for service users presenting with significant mental health difficulties, including Psychosis, complex emotional needs (Personality Disorders), Bipolar, OCD, PTSD, Severe Depression and Anxieties. We work with specialist NHS and third sector services to provide comprehensive care.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who enjoys working with people presenting a wide range of difficulties.990 The post holder will gain experience across clinical and non‑clinical areas.

We have links with the Newcastle and Lancaster DClinPsy courses, and the Assistant Psychologist role includes support to further your development and career, including applications for Clinical Psychology trainingырха.

Key activities:

  • 1:1 Psychological Interventions, including PSI (psycho‐social interventions) and staying‑well plans
  • Joint assessments of service users and/or family members
  • Neuropsychological assessments
  • Observing, shadowing, and supporting accredited therapists, MHWPs, trainees
  • Supporting data management (e.g., referrals, waiting lists, attendance monitoring)
  • Supporting psychological and MDT audits
  • Observing, shadowing, and supporting team formulation and formulation meetings
  • Attending and supporting teaching and training on evidence‑based practices for therapists and MDT staff
  • Collaborating with Clinical Psychologists, Psychological Therapists, Nurses, Social Workers, Occupational Therapists, Psychiatrists, Support Workers, and Peer Supporters

The role covers North East Cumbria (Carlisle and Eden Valley). The post holder must travel across the locality, with the option to be based in Carlisle. Selection involves a formal interview and Disclosure and Barring Service enhanced clearance is required.

You will provide standardised assessments, psychosocial interventions (CBT‑informed), support the MDT, and participate in regular audit and service evaluation. This varied role offers a range of support and supervision, with weekly supervision from a Senior Psychological Therapist.

You will deliver interventions to support people in working towards their goals using ambiguous activation, graded exposure, psychoeducation, staying‑well planning, and more. You will402 be responsible for supporting therapists and the wider team in monitoring targets and evaluating the service.

Job responsibilities

The Assistant Psychologist works within the psychological interventions team and the broader MDT in North East Cumbria CTT. The focus is supporting qualified Psychological Therapists in assessment, formulation, and interventions for diverse mental health difficulties. Direct contact with service users (in person, remotely, or by telephone) and indirect MDT involvement (pathway and complex case meetings) will form the core of the role. The post holder will also maintain records on Rio, contribute to service development projects and audit, and tasks may evolve with service demands. Others includeૂબ

Essential: Hold an Undergraduate Degree in Psychology (or recognised equivalence by the BPS).

Service‑specific training: staff will attend statutory and mandatory training applicable to all Trust staff, with support for ongoing CPD/training.

Additional responsibilities: may include training and implementation of audit, service evaluation, and other health activity.
