About the Role

As the Assistant Head, you will deputise for the Area Head when required and play a key part in ensuring excellence in teaching, learning and assessment across all programmes in the area, including Further Education, Apprenticeships, Higher Apprenticeships and Full Cost courses. You will provide line management for a number of staff, supporting performance, wellbeing and professional development.

Alongside your leadership responsibilities, you will maintain a reduced teaching load, reviewed annually, enabling you to remain actively engaged in classroom practice while supporting operational management and quality assurance.

What You’ll Do
  • Deputise for the Head of Area as needed
  • Deliver high-quality teaching within the curriculum area
  • Lead on the quality of teaching, learning and assessment, sharing best practice and delivering CPD
  • Contribute to cross-College teaching and learning development groups
  • Assist with operational management of all courses in the area
  • Prepare staff timetables to ensure effective staffing and resource utilisation
  • Liaise with timetabling to resolve issues with registers or rooming
  • Ensure appropriate cover for staff absence and monitor cover arrangements
  • Provide effective line management, including communication, performance management, welfare, capability, absence and disciplinary processes
  • Support student behaviour monitoring, pastoral needs and disciplinary processes
  • Support the management of physical and material resources for curriculum delivery
  • Promote Equality, Diversity & Inclusion and Safeguarding across all aspects of the role
  • Undertake additional duties as required by line management
