Job description

In line with our redeployment policy, we'll prioritise applications from employees who are under formal notice of redundancy.

We’re looking for a Head of Donor Engagement, a new role in the Fundraising Leadership Team, to lead our Donor Engagement team.

In this strategic role you’ll shape and influence how donors connect with us, ensuring they feel valued and inspired by the impact of their generosity – bringing a joy to giving.

You’ll lead a team responsible for donor experience, events, stewardship, and impact communications. Working collaboratively organisation wide, you’ll design compelling donor journeys, deliver meaningful engagement opportunities, and showcase the difference our supporters make.

Salary: circa £60,762 - £64,000 with potential flexibility based on skills and experience.

What it's like to work here

Reporting into our Fundraising and Partnerships Director, you’ll join a positive and forward-thinking fundraising leadership team where collaboration, inclusion, and continuous improvement are key.

As this is a national role, there is flexibility on your contractual place of work. Our hybrid working policy means you can balance office and home working with site visits and meetings at other National Trust places. We’ll talk about this in more detail at interview, but you should expect to be at a National Trust site for 40–60% of your working week.

What you'll be doing

You’ll lead the Donor Engagement team to deliver outstanding experiences that deepen relationships and encourage continued support. You’ll oversee donor journeys, events, stewardship initiatives, and impact reporting, ensuring every interaction reflects our strategic ambitions.

This is a new role in a newly formed team, and as such, there will be real scope to develop it for the most impact and to create a transformational impact in how we engage with our donors.

Working closely with colleagues across fundraising, communications, and marketing you’ll create personalised, segmented, and compelling engagement strategies. By combining creative storytelling with data-driven insights, you’ll ensure donors see the impact of their support through meaningful experiences and high-quality reporting.

Through your collaborative and inspirational leadership, you’ll encourage growth and high-quality work within your team, whilst influencing senior stakeholders to align donor engagement with our organisational goals. Your expertise and strategic vision will help shape a culture where donors feel emotionally connected and valued, playing a pivotal role in our long-term success.

Who we're looking for

Applications from redeployees are assessed against the minimum criteria for the role. In your application, please provide details of how you meet the minimum criteria below:

  • Strong understanding of donor behaviours and motivations, with experience tailoring engagement strategies that have had tangible impact
  • Experience in fundraising strategy and impact reporting that inspires continued support, alongside deep knowledge of best-in-class sector examples and innovation
  • Proficiency with CRM systems and digital tools to enhance donor experiences
  • Knowledge of GDPR and ethical fundraising practices, across multiple fundraising income areas and audience types
  • Inspiring leadership, strategic thinking, and vision to align donor engagement with organisational goals and internal stakeholder objectives
Additional criteria for all other applicants:
  • Exceptional communication and storytelling skills to show impact creatively
  • Experience leading donor engagement programmes and designing journeys that deepen relationships
