Mercuria’s accounting team is seeking a highly motivated Senior Financial Accountant to join and assist in the opening of our new Bermuda office. This role offers the opportunity to take ownership of financial accounting and reporting for a portfolio of group holding and operating companies in Bermuda and abroad. You will play a pivotal role in translating complex group corporate activities into accurate accounting transactions, ensuring compliance, and supporting strategic decision-making.
Responsibilities
As part of the Mercuria accounting team, you will:
- Own the accounting process: Manage all aspects of the financial accounts for the companies in scope, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timeliness. Involvement in accounting for employee share plan and corporate entity restructuring and liquidation.
- Drive financial reporting: Prepare annual statutory accounts, quarterly management accounts, and external/internal financial statements in line with IFRS and statutory requirements.
- Strengthen controls: Ensure internal controls over closing activities are consistently applied and improved.
- Partner with auditors: Act as the primary contact for external auditors, coordinating audits and ensuring efficient communication.
- Collaborate across functions: Work with other teams to compile and analyze financial data, prepare journal entries, and provide financial insight to support operations.
- Be a trusted advisor: Serve as the key finance liaison for your companies, providing timely guidance and support to management and stakeholders.
- Champion efficiency: Participate in projects and ad‑hoc initiatives aimed at improving processes, systems, and reporting capabilities.
Qualifications and experience:
- Professional accounting qualification (CA/ACCA/CPA or equivalent) with 7+ years of relevant experience.
- Previous Big 4 experience is highly advantageous.
- Knowledge of the commodity trading industry or experience in a large multinational organization is an asset.
- Strong technical understanding of IFRS, statutory accounting, and auditing standards.
- Proven analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to work with complex structures.
- Ability to plan, prioritize, and deliver results under tight deadlines.
- Resilient, hands‑on, and adaptable with a high degree of integrity and discretion.
- Proficiency in SAP (FI), Excel, and Word.
- Excellent communication skills —capable of building strong working relationships across international teams.
- Independent, proactive, and fluent in English.
