Qualifications

  • Experience in a workshop foreman, controller, or senior technician role preferred.
  • Full UK driving licence is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Manage daily operations of the workshop.
  • Support the team to stay motivated.
  • Provide clear explanations of work required.
  • Keep customers updated on progress.
  • Handle customer queries and complaints promptly.
  • Prepare accurate job cards for technicians.
  • Monitor job progress to meet customer expectations.
  • Liaise with the team to schedule workload efficiently.
  • Check completed work and raise issues with the Service Manager.
  • Ensure key steps for achieving KPIs are taken.
  • Ensure vehicles are ready for MOTs.

We’re seeking an experienced and motivated Workshop Controller to take a leading role within our busy Birmingham site.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who excels at coordinating workloads, supporting technicians, and ensuring our workshop operates at the highest standards of efficiency and customer service. If you’re ready to bring your expertise to a well-established and respected commercial vehicle brand, we’d love to hear from you.

Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:00 am to 4:30 pm (45 hours per week, 30 minutes lunch break unpaid).

Salary: Negotiable, will be discussed at interview stage.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the daily operations of the workshop.
  • Support the team to stay motivated and engaged.
  • Provide clear explanations of work required, costs, and timescales.
  • Keep customers updated on progress and communicate any additional work required.
  • Handle customer queries and complaints promptly and effectively.
  • Prepare accurate job cards and ensure technicians have all required information.
  • Monitor job progress and ensure timely completion to meet customer expectations.
  • Liaise with the workshop team to schedule workload efficiently.
  • Check completed work, raising any issues with the Service Manager.
  • Assist with ensuring key steps have been taken to help achieve KPIs.
  • Ensure vehicles are ready in time for MOTs.

Ideally, we are looking for:

  • Strong technical knowledge within an automotive or mechanical workshop environment.
  • Excellent diagnostic and problem‑solving skills.
  • Effective leadership and communication abilities.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Commitment to high standards of service and workmanship.
  • Experience in a workshop foreman, workshop controller, or senior technician role (preferred).
  • Full UK driving licence (desirable).
