Volunteer Coordinator
RAY (Refugee Action York)

Salary: £16.39-£17.52 per hour

Hours: 18.5 hours pw

Location: Home / York

Contract: 12months

Location: RAY does not have an office base – staff work from home, with sessions and some meetings held in various locations generally close to the City Centre.

RAY is a small registered charity providing support and information to refugees, asylum seekers and migrants living in and around the city. RAY’s vision is for all refugees, asylum seekers and migrants to be welcomed and fully accepted into local and regional communities, where they can feel safe and empowered to rebuild their lives.

Summary of role

This is a key role within this small organisation and is integral to its ongoing development and success. The purpose of the role is to:

  • Coordinate the team of volunteers, ensuring skills and abilities are matched to the roles, and providing adequate cover for key projects and services
  • Provide support and supervision to volunteers
  • Encourage and support members of the refugee and migrant communities with whom we work to volunteer
Key tasks are:
  • To coordinate the team of volunteers, inducting and maintaining suitable volunteers for each project, ensuring their skills and abilities are matched to the needs of different volunteer roles
  • To welcome new volunteers and provide training and support to ensure they understand their role and RAY’s vision, mission and values
  • To be responsible for organising volunteer rotas and regular communication with volunteers to ensure adequate cover for key projects and services
