A leading tech news outlet is looking for a VC and deals reporter to cover European startups and technology. The ideal candidate will have strong news judgement, understanding of venture capital, and editorial experience. You'll report on investments and funding, work collaboratively with a team, and contribute to podcasts. This position offers a salary range of £40-43k, hybrid working options, and a supportive company culture.
Sifted, the award-winning tech news outlet backed by the Financial Times, is looking for a VC and deals reporter to join us covering the world of European startups and tech.
You will be responsible for reporting on venture capital and startup funding more broadly across Europe, breaking news on investments, fundraises, exits and fund activity. You will produce clear reporting and analysis that helps readers understand how capital is flowing — and what that means for founders, investors and the wider ecosystem.
We are looking for a reporter with strong news judgement and an understanding of venture capital, including how funds operate, how deals are structured and how market conditions shape investment behaviour. You should be comfortable developing sources among founders, investors and advisers, delivering scoops and deep analysis.
This is a beat that cuts across the entire European tech landscape and you will be encouraged to collaborate closely with reporters covering AI, defence, fintech and other regions. You should be comfortable working across formats — from written articles to podcasts and video — and have ideas about how coverage could be improved.
You will work closely with a collaborative team of journalists with experience at outlets including the Financial Times, Bloomberg, Reuters, Dagens Industri, Fortune and Wired.
We strongly encourage applicants from underrepresented backgrounds to apply for this position.
Six years after launching, Sifted’s high-quality journalism is a must-read for many founders, investors and people working in startups and scaleups across the continent. We produce must-read journalism and intelligence on Europe’s innovation economy, distributed via our website, newsletters, weekly podcast, proprietary data trackers, briefings and reports. We have a fast-growing subscription product and hold a profitable annual event, The Sifted Summit.
We’re friendly, hard-working and passionate about what we do. We have a flat structure, collaborate across disciplines and everyone has an impact across many areas of the business. We value feedback, honesty and clear communication.
Reporting to our news editor Martin Coulter, it will be your mission to ensure Sifted is always on top of (and making!) industry news.
You will cover the full spectrum of venture capital in Europe — from the angel investors and seed funds backing startups at their earliest stages, through to the multi-stage funds, strategic backers, secondaries funds and PE firms that tend to come in later.
It will also be your mission to scoop upcoming secondaries transactions, catch wind of companies making moves to go public and scout out those on the hunt for a buyer.
Like all our reporters, you’ll also star in our weekly podcast, moderate in-person and online events hosted by Sifted and regularly travel abroad to attend industry events.
Our London office is on the Strand, where the majority of our editorial team work. (A third of our editorial team are based in continental Europe.) We ask all editors and reporters to come into the office at least two days per week.
For this role, we’re open to applicants based in any major tech hub in Europe.
Please send us three pitches (headline + a few bullet points) for stories you would write in your first few months in this role, along with your CV and cover letter to careers@sifted.eu. Please make sure your cover letter is in a separate document.
Please mention Journo Resources when you apply, it really helps us out.
