Are you ready to take on a unique and highly specialised role supporting one of the Constabulary’s most specialist teams? The Underwater Search Team is a dedicated unit responsible for conducting technical and specialist police underwater and confined space searches in environments where few others can operate. From recovering vital evidence to locating missing persons, the work of this team makes a profound difference to the public in some of the most challenging circumstances in which UK police operate.
As a Technician, you will be responsible for maintaining a wide range of safety-critical, high-value specialist equipment. This includes ensuring all assets are serviced in line with legislation, Police Diving Rules, and manufacturer guidelines. You will also maintain accurate, auditable records and support regular inspections and audits. This role demands professionalism, precision, and a strong personal commitment. You’ll be joining a close-knit team that values excellence, resilience, and mutual support. Please note: Within Avon and Somerset Constabulary, this role is formally titled Maintenance Officer.

This role is 24 hours per week, with a working pattern to be agreed with the successful applicant. Holding a full current driving licence or able to travel around the force area using alternative transport is desirable. To be eligible to apply for this role you must have a 5 year ‘checkable history’ in the UK – ideally this means that you would have been resident in the UK for the last 5 years.
