Salary: Voluntary Role
Start Date: ASAP

Join our Board of Trustees and help shape the future of education. We are seeking experienced professionals with expertise in Finance, Human Resources, and/or Estates Management to join our Multi-Academy Trust Board. As a Trustee, you will play a vital strategic role in ensuring our schools deliver exceptional education while maintaining strong governance and compliance.

What does the role involve?

As a Trustee, you will provide:

  • Strategic Leadership - helping set the vision and long‑term goals for the Trust.
  • Accountability & Assurance - ensuring financial sustainability, robust HR practices, and effective estates planning.
  • Strategic Engagement - working collaboratively with Executive Officers and stakeholders.

You will join a Board that holds collective responsibility for:

  • Compliance with charitable objectives, statutory and regulatory requirements, and funding agreements.
  • Oversight of financial health, risk management, and resource allocation across all schools.
Key Areas of Focus for Trustees with Finance, HR, or Estates Expertise:
  • Finance:
    • Ensure strong financial governance and sustainability.
    • Oversee budgets, audit processes, and resource management.
  • Human Resources:
    • Support strategic workforce planning and organisational development.
    • Ensure compliance with employment law and effective HR policies.
  • Estates & Facilities:
    • Drive long‑term estates strategy and capital planning.
    • Safeguard pupils by ensuring safe, well‑maintained learning environments.
What we’re looking for:
  • Commitment to the Christian ethos and values of the Methodist Church.
  • High integrity, transparency, and collaborative approach.
  • Strategic thinking and ability to scrutinise and challenge constructively.
  • Expertise in Finance, HR, or Estates Management (experience in education, law, compliance, or digital transformation is also desirable).
What time commitment is needed:

Trustees are expected to attend committee meetings online once per term, typically lasting around 2 hours each, and Trust Board meetings four times a year, which are held preferably in person at the Trust office and usually run for approximately 4 hours. These meetings are essential for effective governance and strategic oversight, and your active participation will help ensure the Trust continues to deliver excellence in education.

A full induction of the Trust and its schools will be given on appointment.
