Job description

STRI Consulting is a world leading sports surface and environmental development, design and technical solutions focused business with its head office in Bingley, West Yorkshire. It is part of the STRI Group, several businesses focused on providing innovative solutions to the sport and urban environments sectors.

The company has over 95 years of history and has worked on some of the biggest national and international projects which in the last 25 years has included the 2012 Olympics in London, numerous FIFA world cups, UEFA competitions, the Saudi Cup turf racetrack in Saudi Arabia, development solutions for elite professional sports clubs in the UK and working with large multinational development & construction businesses and local & national government.

As the company expands, it is looking to bring in the right person to help deliver our expanding portfolio of development projects, working as part of a wider cross group team delivering high quality facilities on behalf of our clients.

STRI has several specialist consultants, designers, and technicians as well as project management capability and digital designers that can realise and deliver our clients aspirations. The successful candidate would be working as part of the development team alongside other specialist development consultants.

Role

As a town planner at STRI Consulting you would be expected to assist the Director and Head of Development and the Senior Planner to prepare pre-application and planning application submissions for regeneration and development projects such as, recreational areas, sports facilities, as well as residential, commercial sites and development related to urban environments. You will need to be prepared to contribute to thinking creatively to solve problems and engage with colleagues to understand the business.

Your work would include, among other things:

  • Attending site visits across the UK
  • Providing input to planning and development advice
  • Discussing project requirements with internal teams
  • Writing reports
  • Liaising with sub-consultants
  • Preparing draft proposals to clients for approval by Senior Planner
  • Attending and helping to prepare public and key stakeholder consultation

You would be based at the UK head office in Bingley, West Yorkshire, but the job would entail travel throughout the UK.

Requirements

We have set out below the minimum requirements for this role:

  • A relevant degree accredited by the Royal Town Planning Institute
  • Chartered member of the Royal Town Planning Institute, or working towards qualification for chartership
  • Ideally 2+ years post qualification experience (but not essential)
  • Have an interest in sports and the environment (not essential)
  • Have good verbal and written communication
  • Be able to manage a workload of applications, research and supporting senior members of the team
  • Full UK driving licence
  • DBS certificate (not essential, this can be organised with a successful candidate)
  • Experience working in the sports sector
  • Experience of the appeals system

Ability to commute/relocate:
