Job summary

An organisation dedicated to child health is looking for positive and enthusiastic individuals to supervise children brushing their teeth as part of a health programme at Glaitness nursery in Kirkwall. The role involves organizing and supervising sessions to help develop healthy habits among children. Candidates should have relevant experience working with young children and be prepared to follow health and safety guidelines. This temporary position offers 6 hours per week until 17 August 2026 with a pay range of £15.03 - £15.19 per hour.

Qualifications

  • Relevant experience of working with young children is essential.
  • Awareness and ability to follow health and safety and confidentiality guidance.
  • Level 2 Disclosure Check with PVG for working with children.

Overview

Temporary up to 17 August 2026

£29,002 to £29,311 pro rata / £15.03 - £15.19 per hour (including Distant Islands Allowance)

We are looking for positive and enthusiastic individuals to help deliver the Childsmile Toothbrushing Programme for children at Glaitness nursery.

Responsibilities

The post will involve organising and supervising children brushing their teeth as part of the NHS Orkney Childsmile Toothbrushing Programme. You will work on your own supervising children brushing their teeth, but you will have regular contact with the NHS Orkney Oral Health Team. While your role is not to brush children's teeth you will be there to encourage the children to brush their teeth well and develop this important lifetime habit.

Requirements
  • Appropriate and relevant experience of working with young children is essential.
  • Aware and ability to follow health and safety, infection control and confidentiality guidance.
  • Travel efficiently and effectively between work locations within Orkney to meet the operational requirements of the Service.
  • Level 2 Disclosure Check with PVG for working in a regulated role with children.
Hours

6 hours per week, Term Time | Temporary up to 17 August 2026

Hours are worked around school timetables and breaks, four days per week.
