Temporary Special Needs Support Assistant - Abernant Primary School

Salary: Grade 3 £25,185 x 35.61%

• Number of Pupils on role: 98
• Hours: 15 hrs. per week (Term Time Only)
• Contract Type: Temporary
• Start Date: As soon as possible

The Governing Body of Abernant primary School requires a Temporary Special Needs Support Assistant to complement our existing team.

The successful applicant will:

• Support the integration of the pupil into the mainstream school environment, working under the guidance of the Headteacher to ensure inclusion and participation in all aspects of school life.
• Provide supervision during transitions and unstructured times, ensuring the pupil’s safety and engagement as they move around the school.
• Facilitate the development of independent living skills, positive social interactions, and appropriate behaviour, both within the classroom and in wider school settings.
• Collaborate flexibly with teaching and support staff, adapting to the needs of the pupil and the school environment.
• Work with small groups of children, delivering targeted support and provision aligned with the pupil’s Individual Development Plan (IDP), to promote progress and wellbeing.

The successful applicant will need to:

• Experience working with children or young people, particularly those with additional learning needs (ALN).
• A patient, empathetic, and nurturing approach to supporting pupils with diverse needs.
• Ability to follow and implement Individual Development Plans (IDPs) and work towards specific learning and behavioural targets.
• Strong communication skills to liaise effectively with pupils, staff, and parents/carers.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, under the direction of teaching staff and school leadership.
• A flexible and adaptable attitude to meet the changing needs of pupils and the school environment.
• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
• Basic literacy and numeracy skills.
• Experience of working with pupils in Foundation Phase and KS2 is desirable.
• Be willing to learn and undertake training.

The post holder will need to have a good understanding of special educational needs.
