Technical Manager / Head of Technical (Curtain Wall / Glazing)

About RED Systems

RED Group delivers specialist façade/facade, curtain wall and glazing projects across the UK. We’re strengthening pre-construction technical assurance and Building Safety Act delivery with a new senior role that sits on our Operational Board.

The role

Reporting to the Operations Director, you’ll act as RED’s technical authority at pre-construction: holding technical sign-off at bid-stage technical appraisals and new-order handovers (cross-functional reviews run by Sales/Estimating), calling risks early, and leading compliant value engineering.

You’ll own our technical standards library (specs, calculations, details, product evidence) and direct/QA external façade and structural engineers.

Design interface: you own technical assurance of our design partner REDline Facades; our Senior Projects Manager retains programme ownership.

We are open to appointing at Technical Manager or Head of Technical level, depending on experience. The scope and accountability of the role are fixed; the level of appointment will reflect the experience and readiness of the successful candidate. For the right person, this is a genuine progression opportunity into a full Head of Technical role.

Key responsibilities

• Technical sign-off at bid stage and at new-order handover; clear go/no-go recommendations
• Early risk identification/quantification; value engineering that remains fully compliant with Building Regulations, CWCT and fire performance
• Build, own and police the technical standards library (templates, calculation methods, standard details, evidence packs)
• Scope, appoint and quality-assure external façade/facade and structural engineering partners; manage cost/programme/quality
• Lead RED’s Building Safety Act technical response: Gateway 2/3 evidence, product substantiation, change control and Golden Thread discipline
• Line-manage the part-time Technical Manager; influence designers through governance, not empire
• Represent Technical on the Operational Board; concise reporting on risks, options and recommendations

About you

• Senior façade/curtain wall/glazing engineer or Technical Manager operating at - or ready to step into - Head of Technical level
• Deep knowledge of Building Regulations, CWCT, fire performance and façade systems (unitised/stick)
• Track record running design assurance at bid/hand-over with measurable margin/programme impact
• Comfortable influencing without direct line control (assurance vs programme separation)
• Competent with BIM/digital design principles and managing external consultants/suppliers
