Job summary

A leading aerospace SME near Salisbury is seeking a Contract Technical Author for a 6-month project with a likelihood of extension. This role involves creating foundational documentation for complex UAV platforms, including System Operating and Maintenance Manuals. Candidates should have experience in aerospace or UAV environments and be knowledgeable in S1000D and STE standards. Hybrid working allows for 3 days onsite, with flexible hours, and the day rate is open to negotiation based on expertise.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in technical authorship, particularly in aerospace or UAV contexts.
• Familiarity with S1000D and modular documentation practices.
• Strong ability to work autonomously and interact with engineering teams.

Responsibilities

• Create System Operating and Maintenance Manuals and training documentation.
• Develop structured and clear documentation aligned to S1000D and STE standards.
• Establish practical authoring processes for future requests.

Skills

Contract Technical Author – Aerospace / UAV

6-month contract | Extension likely | Hybrid (3 days onsite) | Near Salisbury

This contract exists because this business is doing something new.

You’ll be brought in to create the foundations for how complex UAV platforms are documented, supporting both customers in the field and internal engineering teams as the organisation scales.

You’ll work inside a high-performing aerospace SME that designs, builds and manufactures its own aircraft in-house. Engineers, manufacturing and support sit side-by-side, giving you real access to the platform – not just documents and assumptions.
