Job description
The Vacancy

We are seeking to appoint an and well–qualified teacher, committed to enabling students to realise their highest academic potential. The successful applicant will be an excellent classroom practitioner who will convey an enthusiasm for the subject to the students they teach. It is envisaged the successful candidate will continue to develop and raise the profile of Science at RBAI, both internally and externally.

Candidates for this post must have a good honours degree in Chemistry and teaching experience at all key stages; they must have already demonstrated very good organisational and administrative skills, together with a high degree of involvement in the academic and extra–curricular life of the school with which they have been professionally associated.

Major of responsibility will include:
  • To maintain and develop effective teaching of Physics and/or Life & Health Sciences at A–Level, GCSE Science and KS3 Science;
  • To monitor and evaluate the quality of teaching and standards of pupils' achievements and set targets for improvement;
  • High quality teaching and assessment, up to and including A–Level;
  • Promotion of STEM and Science related careers and enrichment opportunities.
Essential Criteria
  • Qualified teacher status as recognised by the Department of Education for Northern Ireland and registered with GTCNI (by September 2026);
  • An Honours degree 2.2 or above in Physics or a BEd in Science;
  • Experience of teaching Physics up to, and including GCSE within the past 5 years.
Desirable Criteria
  • To have been teaching up to, and including, A–Level Physics and/or Life & Health Sciences within the past 5 years.
  • Proven record of significant contribution to the extra–curricular work of the school, including Science Enrichment.
